Māngere East Primary School is seeking an energetic, values-driven educator to join our team in 2027. This position is fully-released.
Purpose
The purpose of the Learning Support and Special Education Coordinator role is to advocate for and ensure that every student with diverse learning needs receives timely, culturally responsive support to fulfil their potential. This role is to also help build staff capacity in inclusive education across our kura.
Key Responsibilities
The Learning Support and Special Education Coordinator will work closely with a variety of stakeholders, including staff, students, whānau, cluster LSCs and external agencies, to drive:
Identification: The systematic identification of student needs.
Support & Liaison: Coordinating stakeholder involvement in collaborative planning, multi-agency support, and funding applications (e.g. ORS, RTLB, IRF).
Transitions: Coordinating seamless transitions into, through, and out of our kura.
Capacity Building: Mentor kaiako and kaiāwhina to strengthen inclusive practice.
The Ideal Candidate
Holds a current New Zealand Teacher Certification.
Is knowledgeable about and deeply committed to inclusive education.
Has demonstrated the ability to support diverse learners and neurodivergent students through collaborative practice and action-oriented One Plans / IEPs that are actively used by staff and whānau to achieve planned outcomes.
Has a good understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Phase 1 of the NZ Curriculum, Te Whāriki, and cultural perspectives on gifted and talented learners.
Has experience accessing external support and with Ministry of Education funding processes.
Is an excellent communicator, highly professional, collaborative and demonstrates a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Is a team player and a self-directed learner, who shows initiative and works flexibly to achieve student and school outcomes.
Is digitally proficient, using ICT to optimise administrative tasks and communicate effectively across our school community.
Being bilingual (a speaker of te reo Māori, reo Māori Kūki 'Āirani, Gagana Samoa, Lea Faka-Tonga, Gagana Tokelau, Vagahau Niue, Hindi, or Urdu) is an advantage.
