Re: School Closed for Instruction - Staff Strike Action on 23rd October 2025

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Primary teachers, primary principals, support staff, kaiārahi i te reo, therapists and Ministry of Education field staff and support workers have all voted to take strike action together on Thursday 23 October. 

As many of our teaching and support staff are union members, we do not have enough non-striking staff to maintain a safe and effective learning environment for our tamariki.  

The Māngere East Primary School Board has carefully considered the situation and has decided to close the school on this day. This decision was not made lightly, and our primary concern is the health and safety of our students.

We realise that this closure will be an inconvenience for many whānau, and we appreciate your understanding and support.  Parents and caregivers will need to make alternative arrangements for their children’s care on this day.  If making alternative care arrangements is difficult, we can still supervise students if required. Please contact the office (phone call, email, note) to indicate if your child/children will need this.

The school will reopen as usual on Friday 24 October.  We have a few groups performing at the Beatz of Māngere, so we are looking forward to watching them shine at Mountain View Primary School.
