Rehu Tai Oral Language Festival
Each year our Year 5-8 students have the opportunity to write a Speech or Rap or Spoken Word or Flash Talk. The winners from each class compete at our school competition (Y5&6 or Y7&8). The winners of this compete at the Māngere competition and then onto the Auckland competition. The marking rubric, so you can support this learning at home, is below.
What is Literacy about?
Literacy is about learning to use, create and enjoy the Literacy language in all its forms – oral, written and visual communication.
How is Literacy structured in the New Zealand Curriculum?
Literacy is structured into two interconnected strands:
Making Meaning | listening, reading and viewing.
Creating Meaning | speaking, writing and presenting.
Students need to practice making meaning and creating meaning at each level of the curriculum.
How is Literacy taught at our school.
